Reiki Healing: Why You Should Consider It for Your Stress and Tension

Woman doing a yoga poseIn today’s world where there are too many distractions and concerns that most often than not lead to stress, tension, and a general sense of malaise, yoga and meditation are the usual healing processes that many people subscribe to. And yes, they do help tremendously.

But did you know that there’s another way to reduce stress and promote relaxation and healing? Known as Reiki, anyone can reap its benefits in a Reiki healing course now offered in yoga and meditation centres.

What is Reiki?

It is a Japanese form of medicine to heal the body that promotes spiritual healing and self-improvement. The name is composed of Japanese words: Rei, which means “The Higher Power” or “God’s Wisdom,” and Ki, meaning “life force energy.” Ki is the Japanese equivalent of the Chinese “chi” and India’s “prana.”

A practitioner who has learned the technique through “attunement” or the process of passing on the ability from master to student does Reiki healing. The student learns to tap into an endless supply of life force energy that lies within his being. It is this ability that allows him to help others by merely “laying on his hands” on the subject to raise the life force energy to promote wellness.

What happens in a Reiki session?

Anyone who has had the training can do Reiki healing. So even a friend can do it for you. The important thing is that the person is someone whom you are comfortable with. Make sure the process is described to you clearly, so you’ll know what to expect.

The session can be done anywhere—in a dedicated clinic, in the house, in a hospital bed, and will take anywhere from 15 to 20 minutes to 90 minutes. The recipient of the healing process will be fully clothed and can be lying on a bed or sitting comfortably on a chair. The practitioner then administers light touches on the head and the front and back of the torso. The limbs may also be touched if healing is needed there. Sometimes touching may not even be done especially if there’s an open wound. The practitioner can just hover their hands on the specific spot.

The result

People who have experienced Reiki healing reported to feeling refreshed afterwards, of falling asleep during the session, or seeming to fall asleep but are still aware of what’s happening. As the process usually takes four sessions at the minimum, some say the initial effect has been small but that as days pass, they notice great improvements in their condition.

Reiki healing may have its share of sceptics, but for those who were willing to try it, they are unanimous in saying that they were glad they did.
